Timecode points of interest:

42 – Nothing that we say should be taken as any form of diagnosing. We are here for educational and informational purposes only.

13 – What is Depth Psychology?

39 – Carl Jung and Pierre Janet were forefathers in terms of research of dissociation.

06 – What’s an example of neurotypical dissociation? Driving and daydreaming.

10 – Dissociation is a coping mechanism.

27 – Types of Dissociative disorders

56 – Dissociative Fugue

54 - Depersonalization and Derealization

53 – Treatment options for Dissociative Disorders separate from DID. Things like EMDR and brainspotting

32 – People can avoid therapy because they don’t want to rehash the trauma, but nowadays there are new therapeutic methods where they don’t have to.

48 – Therapy is extremely personal, and you need to be comfortable with your therapist to make progress.

51 – When looking for a therapist for Dissociative Disorders is there anything in particular as far as training goes to look for? Internal Family Systems training and Comprehensive Resource Model training. Great resource to find one who is trained: the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation www.isst-d.org

00 – There’s a disconnect between doctors and insurance and trying to find specialty trained mental health professionals who will take your insurance. You can look into a Single Case Agreement if the professional doesn’t currently take your insurance. We’ll try to do an episode on insurance in the future.

40 – Dr. C talks about her experience with DID, and how having a mom with DID influenced her to go into the field she is in today. Dr. C references her thesis (https://www.proquest.com/openview/4d14bcf646dcb45a3f9472d4b44f4ac1/1?pq-origsite=gscholar&cbl=18750&diss=y )

20 – Going over some of the terminology related to Dissociative Identity Disorder

32 – Portrayals of DID in media are very inaccurate

32 – How is DID a developmental disorder?

12 – It’s almost sad that DID is considered a disorder. What an amazing coping mechanism. The will to survive is so strong.

15 – DID only occurs in young children, although it can surface later in life. The range is birth to anywhere from 5-9 depending on the child and when their personality is formed completely.

27 – Ritual abuse is discussed

55 – Alters are not necessarily human. They can be nearly anything from an inanimate object to an animal to a demon or angel.

31 – While DID is not literally real it is psychologically real and has to be addressed as such

11 – Trauma impacts each person differently. You don’t know anyone else’s journey.

50 – We have to meet people where they’re at, and with DID the different alters might be at different places

22 – Dr C is Clinical Director at Iris Healing. Nicole’s son had to go there for DID treatment.

03 – I reference a group I joined on FB as support for people with DID; however, I did not discuss anything with the admins so I’m not going to list it. Please do a search for DID support groups if you are struggling.

40 – DID people are amazing. Yep. They’re amazing. What they survived. What they’re capable of. “Jobs” within the system are discussed.

00 – Integration is not necessary to treat DID. Having a system work well together and achieving co-consciousness is the goal.
